Lampang is located in the northern region of the country. Neighbouring provinces are Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Phayao, Phrae, Sukhothai and Tak, Khelang Nakhon is the old name of Lampang. Lampang is mainly famous for producing ceramic goods. A lot of china stone, ball clay and lignite are mined and extracted from the mountains that surround the city of Lampang. Over two hundred ceramic factories in and around the city of Lampang make a wide variety of novelties such as dolls and ornaments as well as plant pots and tableware. Some of the larger ceramic factories produce building materials such as ceramic tiles and decorative ceramic railings. Thailandís largest power plant is in the Mae Mo district of Lampang near to the lignite mining area in Lampang and uses the lignite as fuel. The largest concrete plant is also in this province and is located to the north of the city of Lampang. This concrete plant is also powered by the locally mined lignite and also uses the limestone which is another rock mined in Lampang. The main agricultural products from this province are rice and pineapples.
